While a music major at the University of Texas, I met my future husband, which endangered that period of my academic career. Then, in my sophomore year, we moved to Jackson, Mississippi so he could teach in the Jackson Symphony string program. I began playing in the JSO, also, and have been doing so ever since!     Fifteen years and five children after the time we moved to Jackson (and later, nearby Clinton), I entered the adult degree program at Millsaps College. After the entry course, I decided to undertake Classical Studies, where I was privileged to study under the marvelous professors, Richard and Catherine Freis.
In 1987, I began teaching string classes in secondary schools for the same Symphony program that had brought my husband (who was now a computer programmer) and me to Mississippi. I've also taught private lessons to both violin and viola students.     I began teaching Latin in the fall of 1993, after finishing my degree the previous spring. I have taught in the Jackson Public Schools, at two private schools, and in the Mississippi Virtual School. Currently I am teaching classes of homeschoolers. In addition, I tutor both high school and college students.
Currently, I am looking to begin booking small string groups for various types of special occasions, as well as to expand my music teaching. Thanks to patient relatives who have introduced me to the wonders of Skype, I can now say that I am able to teach lessons to students outside of my driving area. Let me hear from you! I'd love to to help you learn to play one of these great instruments!     As I mentioned on the musical side of my life, I've learned how to Skype. I would be delighted to help you learn Latin or Greek in person, but I am also available to teach classes via Skype or other online methods.
